The hybrid suite: the future for percutaneous intervention and surgery?
Francesco Maisano and Jean Marco will Chair this session on hybrid suites, a relatively new concept in patient care. What exactly is a hybrid suite, who uses them, where should they be located and how should they be administered? These are just some of the questions that this session will aim to answer.
The session opens with the viewpoint of EACTS, ESC and EAPCI as presented by Francesco Maisano who will present their position statement on the requirements and role of a hybrid suite. While interventional procedures are becoming more reliable surgeons must be on standby during certain procedures. The hybrid suite allows both interventionalists, surgeons angiologists and others to work together, side by side to benefit the patient.
Claude Mialhe will describe some of the technical issues in using a hybrid suite on a daily basis while those who produce technology and devices for hybrid suites will explain the challenges they faced in incorporating these machines into the unit, the complexity of hybrid suite production and answer questions for those thinking of building hybrid suites.
One of the biggest challenges to overcome is the cost of hybrid suites. This issue will be addressed by Franz-Josef Neumann. The use of hybrid suites for TAVI, endovascular aortic aneurysm, paediatric intervention and aortic dissection or rupture will be explored to show how hybrid suites work.
In the past ten years many interventional procedures have become more invasive while many surgical techniques have become less invasive and in many ways these disciplines are closer now than ever before. The hybrid suite is the place where collaboration becomes real but requires that owners develop a new business plan to accommodate this facility and develop new rules for this new era.
