Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital is part of Gruppo Villa Maria, an Italian and International health care network of 11 hospitals and 3 medical centres in Italy, 1 hospital in Paris (France) ad 1 medical centre in Tirana (Albania).
Founded about 35 years ago in Cotignola (Ravenna) since the end of the seventies Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital started a program of Cardiac Surgery and a Cath Lab activity becoming very soon one of the most recognized Cardiac Centre of Italy.
In the recent part Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital has developed other important clinical programs in the field of Neurosurgery and Radioneurosurgery with Gamma Knife, Radiotherapy, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery.

The Mission of the Department is to assure the best treatment to the patient with hearth and vascoular disease trough a co-ordinated multidisciplinary approach of the medical staff of the different units.
More than 4500 patients have been treaded in the Cath Lab of Villa Maria Cecilia Hospital in the 2005 . The interventional Cardio-Angiology unit is well recognized for the interventional procedure of the conary and peripheral vessels: especially in carotid district. Since this year is the leading centre of the Endovascular GVM project, a very important project for the development of endovascular procedures to all hospitals of Gruppo Villa Maria with he collaboration of Prof. Giancarlo Biamino Scientific Co-ordinator.
The Adult Cardiac Surgery Unit is one of the most important centre of Italy. It perform more than 1300 cardiac operation per year. All cardiovascular procedure, with the exception of transplant is performed. Particular interest is in fully arterial revascularization for coronary artery operation, valve-sparing operations for mitral and aortic.
