About us:
| |
The CardioVascular Center Frankfurt was founded in 2003. It is a private institution, affiliated to the Sankt Katharinen Hospital, specialized in cardiovascular catheter interventions (coronary, peripheral and structural).

The catheter based techniques in which the CardioVascular Center has specialized facilitate non surgical repair of many diseases like coronary heart disease, peripheral vascular and cerebrovascular disease as well as many congenital heart defects. Our senior physician, Professor Horst Sievert, has performed more than 30.000 catheter interventions as primary operator. We have one of the largest experiences in catheter closure of congenital heart defects in adults worldwide. Furthermore, our center has currently the world's largest experience in catheter closure of the left atrial appendage for prevention of embolic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation and it is one of the most experienced centers in carotid artery stenting. Annually, 2500 procedures are performed, more than 80% being therapeutic interventions. We get referrals from all over Europe as well as other continents.
In our non-invasive department all kinds of diagnostic techniques for detection of cardiovascular diseases are performed. This includes a new cardiovascular MRI scan. We also perform pacemaker and defibrillator implantations.

Research
The CardioVascular Center is involved in all fields of catheter interventions: coronary, peripheral, congenital and structural. A dedicated team of study coordinators and research nurses is devoted solely to the development of clinical research programs for our patients. All research efforts stress careful patient selection and patient safety. More than 20 clinical protocols are currently active; many involve the newest technology in cardiovascular medicine. This gives our patients access to the most advanced treatment options. We have been involved in the development of various new interventional procedures. Two examples are the first catheter closure of the left atrial appendage and the first non-device PFO closure in the world.
Over the last few years our center has published more than 800 peer-reviewed abstracts, manuscripts and book chapters in cardiovascular publications.

Education
The CardioVascular Center is organizing the annual congress about "Congenital and Structural Interventions CSI since 1996 and the annual "International Course on Carotid Angioplasty ICCA since 2001. In addition, since many years, small courses and hands-on workshops about all aspects of interventional cardiology and vascular medicine are scheduled throughout the year. Medical students are given the opportunity to reach their doctorate of medicine at our center by being integrated in a unique clinical research program. We have transmitted live cases to many major conferences. Over the last few years, members of our center have presented more than 700 invited lectures at conferences around the world.
