The cardiology department of Bichat hospital is specialised in:

Coronary interventions, in particular in acute coronary syndromes with a 24 hour, 7 day a week PCI service, which has been running for 15 years (800 PCI/yr and 257 acute STEMI).

Percutaneous cardiac non coronary interventions.
Valve Interventions:

• Percutaneous mitral commissurotomy since 1986
• Percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty since 1986
• Early experience with percutaneous mitral repair (edge-to-edge technique) started in November 2005 and Percutaneous mitral annuloplasty started in May 2006
• PFO closure and ASD closure stated in June 2001 and early experience with the use of radio frequency in PFO closure started in May 2006
• Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure started in June 2004
• Transcatheter aortic valve implantation started in September 2006, and is currently performed via the transfemoral and transapical approach

The interventional activity of the department of cardiology is performed and developed in close collaboration with the departments of Cardiovascular Surgery (Pr P. Nataf), Anaesthesiology (Pr P. Montravers), as well as Neurology (Pr P. Amarenco).

The department of Cardiology is also heavily involved in research:

Clinical

• Acute coronary syndromes: where it is participating in and co-ordinating monocentric clinical investigations, national and international multicentric assays and registers (Pr G Steg)
• Valvular disease: interventions as well as mono and multi centric studies (Pr B Iung, Dr D Messika-Zeitoun)
• Marfan’s syndrome: a reference centre for France. (Pr G. Jondeau)

• Cognitive & pre-clinical research in relation to clinical investigations with INSERM
